5 Beauty Tips I wish I knew when I was Younger

I get it – your young and beautiful and don’t need to worry about beauty tips or skin care but believe me if you follow these few things you will maintain that youthful look naturally way longer.

Be careful plucking your brows – when in doubt, thicker and fuller is better than thinner. If you are not careful when plucking or waxing you can permanently damage hair follicles and when that happens hair will never grow back. Yes, NEVER! I wish I would have gone to a professional eyebrow threader or eyebrow waxer when I was younger to shape and educate me. I don’t care how cool you think you’ll be – DO NOT SHAVE YOUR BROWS OFF!

Sun protection is no joke – Always wear sun protection. I know it’s not sexy but it’s critical to good skin care. Scientists have found the sun to be getting hotter and UV levels have been increasing 2-6% since 1990. Be sure you wear sun protection every day and be sure you have the right SPF.  Getting the right coverage can be tricky but its worth investing the time and money into finding something that truly protects your skin. As I have gotten older I have noticed that friends who spent years basking in the sun look much older. These friends wore sun screen faithfully so the sun can age you more than anything else. If your like me and you love being outside wear sunscreen and try to limit your direct sun exposure. Wear a hat, move to the shade, go to the woods vs the beach, other… At the risk of getting hate mail – I am just going to say it – DON’T GO TO TANNING BEDS!

Eyelashes need to be protected – There are so many new eyelash options: fiber mascara’s, color and glitter mascara, eyelash extensions, magnetic lashes, eyelash jewelry, led eyelashes, fake eyelashes and chemical growth serums. Known side effects include: changing eye color, eye irritation and possible longterm eyelash damage. Along with the known risks many of these products are so new that no-one knows what the long term repercussions are. Remember that Amalie’s WINK was created by a twenty-one year old seeking a natural and safe remedy for damaged eyelashes due to years of eyelash extensions. Much like your brows; if you damage your hair follicle severely you may never be able to grow hair/lashes again. It’s important to protect your eyelashes now because as you age the growth of your lashes and brows is bound to slow. Seek natural solutions like WINK that have no negative side effects and naturally nourish and grow your eyelashes and eyebrows.

Keep it clean – Find a great face cleanser and be sure to keep your face clean. I know after being out late at night it’s tempting to skip taking your makeup off but your skin needs time to heal and it needs to be clean to do that. What do I recommend? Over the years I have tried just about everything. After all of the expensive and fad options over time I have settled on Cetaphil Daily Face Cleaner. I have been using Cetaphil the past few years and love it. I have super sensitive skin and I find this keeps my face clean, hydrated (but not greasy).  Added perk – this product can be purchased in any drug store or mass merchant chain.

Beauty beyond your face – Anything you do to nourish or protect your face you should do to your neck and hands as well. Yes, I said hands! Think about how much sun exposure your hands get when you’re driving and the abuse they take if your like me and you wash your hands all day. They say the way to tell a woman’s real age is by looking at her hands and neck so why not make it more challenging for people to tell?

REWIND Organic Toning Oil

Night Skin Care Routines are a must – Night Cream & Oils at all ages are key. Once your skin is clean to help revitalize and strengthen skin you should apply essential oils and lotions. Like many others I skipped the face oil part of the beauty routine but since working at Amalie Beauty I have learned the importance of this step. Your skin naturally produces healthy oils but as you age your body produce less so to maintain that dewy look you need to replace the oils yourself. I have introduced friends and family to REWIND Organic Toning Oil and they are amazed with the results. Adding REWIND to the nightly beauty routine has literally rewound the aging look of their face and neck.
