Best Gifts for 2020

There is no doubt that this has been a strange and challenging year so thinking ahead to holidays and gift giving can seem daunting. A small group of Amalie staff got together to consider the best options. As we spoke about various approaches we really felt it was important to get into the real meaning behind the gift. We were able to categorize gift giving into four categories. Comfort, Personal, Splurge and Thoughtful. We believe, what will be most meaningful to people are gifts that are gestures of warmth, care and thoughtfulness.

Comfort

We love the idea of giving gifts that create comfort and warmth. Most of us are starving for hugs and general human touch so creating that feeling with a gift feels right. The comfort trend in clothing has become mainstream during the pandemic so it makes sense that this could cross over to gift giving. Examples include:  A warm soft throw, a fluffy pair of slippers, a s’mores kit or some warm gloves.

Personal

Try to find something that communicates that it’s clearly from you to the person you’r giving the gift to. A one of a kind handmade item is perfect. Millions of people have begun or restarted crafting habits so crochet scarves, hats or gloves or a painting or poem would all be treasured gifts. There is something about handmade items that makes them worth even more. Not handy? I personally love to force bulbs in the fall month. They are easy to do and it allows you to have something alive in your home. If you choose something like paper whites your house will smell like spring. More on steps from Pennington on how to force bulbs for an inside burst of nature. If you aren’t confident making something, try shopping on Etsy for thousands of hand made items.

Splurge

Since COVID most of us are living simpler and more conservative lifestyles. The splurge category is about giving something most wouldn’t think to buy. Perfume, exercise equipment, silk pillow cases, cashmere lounge wear or fresh flowers would all fit into this category. It goes without saying that our Amalie Organic Beauty Assortment fits into this category. Beautifully wrapped and now 40% off. For most of us the little splurges have been minimal so these gifts will help to bring a smile to someones face while bringing a sense of “normalcy.”

Ease

This category is about making life easier. Subscription to an internet service for movies, a cooking subscription, a home herb garden, beer or wine club could all make life easier and help to break the monotony of staying home and inside during colder months.

Wether you have a big budget or no budget, we have you covered. Perhaps the largest gift those reading this share is the gift of life. Be good to one another and lets all be grateful that we are healthy.
