HOW TO GET VOLUMINOUS LASHES EVERY DAY – WITH OR WITHOUT MAKEUP

Long, thick eyelashes never go out of style; They are quite possibly a women’s deadliest weapon. We’ll show you how to get them.

Amazing lashes are a giant confidence-booster and perfect compliment any look (um, why else would we apply weird strips of hair to our eyelids with glue?). We will go to crazy lengths to get long, luxurious lashes, but sometimes at the expense of the health of our natural lashes.

The tips below will help you get full lashes every day, whether you decide to put on mascara or not.

Step 1: Nourish your body

If you want your eyelashes to look amazing, you need to treat them amazingly well. Diet is a cruical element to healthy hair of any kind. Your diet should be rich in fatty acids–especially essential fatty acids, which are necessary for hair growth, but your body cannot produce on its own–and protein for keratin development, as well as other essential vitamins.

We suggest loading up on some of our favorite high protein and/or high EFA foods: salmon, chia seeds, passion fruit, kiwi, walnuts, whole grains.

Step 2: Nourish your lashes

Nourishing your body is important, but nourishing your lashes is equally important. To grow healthy, full and long eyelashes, you will need to deliver the “food” to the source.

Give your lashes (and brows!) a boost with Amalie’s own natural lash and brow enhancer, Wink.

WINK delivers a mix of essential fatty acids directly to the skin around the eyelashes. These essential fatty acids can cue your body to produce prostaglandins naturally, which in turn will signal dormant hair follicles to grow again.

Regrowing eyelashes can lead to a full, sexy look. Additionally, your lashes will be stronger, and therefore less likely to break with applying or removing mascara!

Step 3: Curl your lashes – the right way

Curling your lashes is a MUST. Curling not only makes your eyes look more open (i.e awake), but it also makes the lashes appear longer. The difference is night and day.

BUT – it must be done correctly.

We suggest skipping the dollar store lash curlers. They’re cheap for a reason. They are likely to fall apart or twist while being used, which will pull out your lashes in the process. Go for a mid-range lash curler from a reputable company ($10-$20).

Step 4: Prep your lashes for mascara

If you wear mascara, you can protect your lashes by prepping them to be “painted” by doing one of the following:

  • Lightly dust your lashes with transparent powder or a light colored eyeshadow
  • Prime them with a professional primer, like Lancome’s XL Cils Booster

Priming lashes will coat and protect them from the damaging effects of mascara, as well as make the mascara “stick” a little better, leading to longer wear. Priming will also give lashes a temporary volume and length boost.

If using primer, just use one coat to top lashes, and wait 1 minute before applying.

Step 5: Apply mascara very carefully

When you’re ready to apply, make sure to do it right. From personal experience, I can promise that the best or worst outcome happens right in this step. Do it right and it looks like you have a million natural lashes. Do it wrong and you have about 3 eyelashes that are all clumped together.

The brush is extremely important–more important than the formulation. We suggest using Benefit’s THEY’RE REAL!

Step 6: Remove makeup religiously

When you’ve gotten through the day–a lash slaying warrior–you need to religiously remove that mascara.

Makeup removal is super important; it can be a really negative or positive experience for your lashes and lash health. Forget to remove your makeup and you’re looking forward to brittle, unhealthy lashes that are more likely to fall out on their own.

Check out our “DIY eyemakeup remover” blog for a quick and easy recipe that will leave your lashes nourished daily. Do it correctly (and with the right formulation) and you’ll have healthier and fuller lashes naturally over time. ThenWINK won’t have to do all the heavy lifting!
