THE FUTURE OF WINK

If you can’t find time to read the whole blog, here’s the TL;DR (too long; didn’t read):
Wink is growing, just slowly. 1. We’re hiring part-time in Indiana! 2. We’re product testing in Indiana! Email me for details: [email protected]

I’m coming for ya..

HELLO WINK FAM!

This is Megan checking in from (one of my last nights in!) China.

First of all, I wanted to say thank you, because I have felt truly supported lately. Wink has undergone a few team changes in the past month, and I want to say thank you to a few lovely ladies have reached out and extended a helping hand to me (you know who you are) and who have been willing to do CRAZY times on calls with me, because I’m half a world and therefore half a day away. I always appreciate the help, the willingness to ideate with me, put yourself out there for Wink, tell your friends or local salons–even just 100% honest, brutal feedback (music to my ears!)–every little bit helps. So THANK YOU!

Now, I have been struggling for weeks about what to write in this blog post for you.

On the one hand, this blog is a great place to give tips on everything brows, lashes, beauty and product related (which I have yet to do..).

On the other hand, I’m still in China. I have no resources–including Wink! ahh! In fact, once I ran out Wink (poor planning on my part) I had to go to a dozen stores before I could find the proper ingredients to mix a batch up for myself. 600 RMB, a passport run, a few visa swipes and a 6 hours later, I realized some of the items that they had given me were the wrong ingredients. Womp, womp.. Nothing is as good as the real thing! My lashes are counting down the days.

Also, I want to keep it fresh–so I gotta do what I do best–which is.. I’m not sure what yet, actually.

So I’ll take time to answer a frequently asked question.

One question that I get often from all of you is:

“WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF WINK?”

That is a great question. 18 months ago, my starry-eyed self would’ve said, “I want a full product line within 3 years! I want to do it better and faster than it’s ever been done before!” which I thought was a mature answer, and a steady pace. Without funding or an experienced management team? Funny.

After almost 2 years in the business, I think my answer is exactly the same content-wise: I want to help women conquer their toughest beauty problems. About the speed? I can’t be sure. Life has been throwing Wink (me?) some curveballs.

Wink isn’t an entity in itself (yet). Honestly, it’s still an extension of me. Don’t worry, I am (Wink is?) growing up quickly, but every lesson comes with consequences, and the butterfly effect is, unfortunately, all too real.

I don’t want this to be a repeat of my open letter, but let’s just say: the tough lessons keep on coming. They are not getting easier as the weeks, months, and years go on. Each one is tougher and tougher, and seemingly more impossible to solve, but I will never give up.

All of this is one way of saying: patience is a virtue.

So back to the future of Wink:

We did finish the formulation for another great product way back in early in 2014. Unfortunately, we have not had the resources to launch it. I’m not asking for a pity party–I actually don’t think we’re ready yet, either. I wish we were, but we’re not.

Maybe, though, we will be in the near future.

In the mean time, (dun dun dun!) I wanted to let you know that I will do everything within my power to push the product line forward, so that when we are financially ready, we can pull the trigger and go.

The future of Wink is not in artisan cookies..

TWO BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1. WINK IS HIRING!

We are looking for a responsible, flexible part-time fulfillment manager who can work at the Indiana location. Email me at [email protected] if you or someone you know is interested. I’ll be doing coffee chats (“interviews” is such a stiff word) when I’m back in Indiana, in late May. Qualified candidates must be able to put up with my crazy personality and be able to take my occasionally off-beat text messages with a grain of salt.

2. WE NEED PRODUCT TESTERS!

I will be back in Indiana for the summer, at the Wink store. I want to run some test groups, both with the current product and with the next product, which a few of you have already been able to test. So shoot me an email if you, a friend, a family member..anyone! is interested ([email protected]).

All I ask is that you use the product reliably, stop by the store to get your picture quickly taken every 2 weeks (5-10 minutes max) and come chat with me over coffee every now and then (I’ll provide!). I need your real, honest feedback about the product. I can ask all the questions, I just need the honest answers.

If you love the new product, it’s that much more incentive to talk about Wink to all your friends! The faster we grow, the faster we expand. All in due time.

XOXO,
Megan
